Star Wars: Tales From Jabba's Palace
Edited By Kevin J. Anderson

Synopsis:

Star Wars: Tales From Jabba’s Palace collects together 19 short stories focusing on the criminals, aliens and slaves that surround notorious gangster Jabba the Hutt.

Review:

Star Wars: Tales From Jabba’s Palace, edited by Kevin J Anderson and authored by many, is a collection of short stories comparable to Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina. Much like Cantina, many of the tales weave in and out of each other while also simultaneously including the characters and events from the first portion of Return of the Jedi. As with Cantina, there is bound to be at least one tale for everyone; tales of romance, intrigue, philosophy and horror are among the selection. An improvement over Cantina is the quality of characters available. There are still characters that only appear on-screen for one or two seconds each, but the main cast of Rebels as well as recognizable denizens of the Palace like Bib Fortuna, Salacious Crumb, Boba Fett the Rancor and of course Jabba the Hutt himself are well represented. There are a few stories that focus on characters that never appeared on-screen, which can be a minor annoyance considering the large number of tales. Some characters also do not seem used to their fullest potential (Bib Fortuna comes to mind). A number of the stories also tend to mirror each other, with similar plots to take over Jabba’s position as head honcho and similar endings involving the B’omarr Monks. Tales From Jabba’s Palace took what Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina did well, but with a more colourful cast of characters, placing it with Tales Of The Bounty Hunters as arguably the best book in the Tales series.
