Review:
Star Wars: Tales Of The Bounty Hunters, edited by Kevin J. Anderson and authored by many, is different from the other editions of the Tales series. Rather than containing a large number of short stories, this collection features five novellas. The extra time and space allows the tales to build in more satisfying ways than the interconnected storylines of some of the other Tales collections. IG-88’s story in particular, which details the assassin droids history, has an interesting concept that could have been expanded into a novel or even a trilogy of its own, with a few tweaks to the storyline. Most of the tales involve the hunt for Han Solo from The Empire Strikes Back at one point or another. Han Solo himself even provides a guest appearance in Boba Fett’s tale, which helps Fett’s story feel more relevant than the average Tales series story. A minor gripe about Boba Fett is that it always feels awkward when any story is centered on him, due to receiving his point-of-view thoughts and dialogue in print compared to receiving nothing beyond a few words in the movies. The remaining tales all deliver different emotional reactions. Dengar’s tale is one of love, humanity and forgiveness, Bossk’s tale is one of subterfuge and revenge and 4-Lom and Zuckuss share a tale of philosophy and the Force. All of this plus plenty of action makes Star Wars: Tales of the Bounty Hunters the best collection of the Tales series.
