Star Wars: Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina
Edited by Kevin J. Anderson

Synopsis:

16 Star Wars Adventure Journal short stories centering on the Cantina Scene from Star Wars: A New Hope are collected together in this book.

Review:

Star Wars: Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina, edited by Kevin J. Anderson and authored by many, is not a book that contains galaxy-shattering events involving the main characters of the Star Wars universe. Instead, each of the tales focuses on one or two of the many unique characters from the Episode IV cantina scene, and details why they are in the Cantina at that specific time. Some of the tales are serious (Tonnika Sisters), some violent (Dr Evazan and Ponda Baba), some philosophical (Dannik Jerriko), some romantic (Lak Sivrak and Dice Ibegon), some hilarious (poor Jawa) and some bizarre (poor Greedo). The bartender, Wuher, ends up becoming the most developed character by the end of the collection, as he interacts with many of the characters in their tales, as well as starring in his own. Most tales also offer up their specific version of the Cantina scene, which provides a helpful anchoring point that can even prop up a few of the less interesting stories. There is only so much that can be done with background characters, which can be a turn-off to those looking for more relevant material. Even so, Star Wars: Tales From The Mos Eisley Cantina will provide a decent Star Wars fix and is almost certain to hold at least one good tale for everyone.

Grade: C+
